Description
In 1963 Jasper Johns and John Cage established the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, an organization which sells donated artwork for the benefit of performing artists. Meeting at Earl and Camilla McGrath's apartment in New York in 1980, Johns asked Diebenkorn to donate a work for the foundation's 1980 benefit exhibition. Diebenkorn then drew two sketches of Johns (cats. 4389 and 4390) and gave them to Johns for the show where they were sold together under the title "Two Heads."
