Description
"When the Diebenkorns moved from Berkeley to Los Angeles (in 1965 perhaps) my wife and I gave them a Mexican paper maché figure. R.D., I imagine, kept it in his studio and one day decided to make this little relief, probably as a satirical comment on my serious stuffed women pieces. One day it arrived in the mail. In response I sent him something which I thought was more amusing. He cut up that something and mailed it back. I decided it was time to cease these mailings until a profoundly funny notion came to mind-his or mine." (Paul Harris, Bolinas, Calif., 12 Aug. 2005, Estate archives)
