Announcement for the exhibition “Paintings by Clyfford Still”, Metart Gallery, San Francisco, Calif., June 17–July 14, 1950
This printed announcement introduces the exhibition "Paintings by Clyfford Still", as well as a student exhibition of paintings, sculpture, ceramics, plastics, textiles, jewelry, and furniture at the Metart Gallery in San Francisco. In 1946, Still returned to the Bay Area to begin teaching at the California School of Fine Arts. A group of CSFA students opened the Metart Gallery at the artist's recommendation in 1949. With the announcement of his resignation from his position the following year, Still's students invited him to show a selection of thirteen paintings, twelve of which were completed during his teaching term at the school. On view June 17 through July 14, 1950, the presentation of these artworks served as the gallery’s final exhibition.
