Description
In 1952–53, while living in Urbana, the Diebenkorns participated in occasional drawing sessions with friends in which they drew in response to various theatrical readings. In the session that produced this work, Charles Shattuck, director of the University of Illinois Theatre, read from Bertolt Brecht's 1918 poem, "Legend of the Dead Soldier."
